GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring copper-binding peptide — three amino acids bound to a copper ion — studied for its role in skin appearance, tissue-repair signaling, and the hair follicle environment. It occurs in human plasma and declines with age, which is part of why it draws interest in longevity circles. The evidence is real but early, so framing matters.

What is GHK-Cu?

The peptide (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine bound to copper) was first identified in human plasma decades ago. Laboratory research suggests it participates in signaling related to wound repair, collagen and skin remodeling, and antioxidant activity. Its natural level is higher in youth and falls over time, which has fueled interest in whether replacing it offers benefits.

What has research looked at?

Most of the published work falls into a few buckets:

  • Skin. Topical GHK-Cu is common in cosmetic formulations and has been studied for its effects on skin appearance and remodeling.
  • Tissue repair. Laboratory and animal research has examined copper-peptide signaling in wound healing contexts.
  • Hair. Some studies suggest copper peptides may support the follicle environment, though the clinical evidence for hair regrowth is early and mixed.

The honest summary: promising mechanistic and topical research, with fewer large human trials than the marketing around it often implies.

How is GHK-Cu used clinically?

This is where supervision matters.
